Madhoo opens up on ageism in Bollywood!
Popular films starring Madhoo include Roja, Yodha, Zaalim, and others. She was able to establish herself in the 1990s by playing some powerful roles. But Madhoo made the decision to leave the field just as her career was taking off. She recently explained the rationale behind her choice at a gathering. She claimed that she didn't like the roles that were being offered to her. She continued by stating that it is still challenging for women of a particular age to land "meaty roles."

Madhoo stated during a gathering in Chennai that she has no desire to play the mother of a prominent performer on screen. She used Ajay Devgn as an example because in 1991, they both made their Bollywood debuts with Phool Aur Kaante. The actress revealed, "I have no interest in portraying the character of Ajay Devgn's mother. And this is a probable scenario. We were both launched in the industry simultaneously and are of similar age."

In the 1990s, Madhoo also revealed information about Bollywood films. She discussed how male actors and action films predominated at the time. She further revealed, "During the 90s, action films and heroes dominated the scene, and my roles mainly involved dancing, delivering a few romantic lines, and shedding tears with parents. While I enjoyed dancing, I realized that I was deeply unhappy with this shift from films like 'Roja'. I recognised that my true passion lay in being an artist and doing meaningful work."

Madhoo shared the reason for leaving the industry throughout their conversation. When she worked in Bollywood, she claimed that she struggled with the "feeling of dissatisfaction." She revealed, "After working in the industry for about 9-10 years, I decided it was time to quit. The moment I found a reason, which was when I wanted to get married, I wrote a letter to the people in the industry, expressing my intention to leave. It was partly driven by a sense of arrogance, childhood arrogance. I recognize that now, but at that time I felt that they didn't deserve me. Deep down, I knew I wanted to accomplish much more in my career. So I decided to get married, have children, and continue with my life."
